Ok I just seen this question on another forum somewhere and was wondering what everyone else thought. the replies where about 50/50.50 percent saying it wasn't gambling and 50 percent said it was.I think there is a very easy answer and don't know why it would be 50/50.

It depends on your level of skill.  The more skill and understanding you get of the game, the less "Luck" comes into the game and the more "skill" it needs.

I agree with Tomturkey46, the people that call it gambling because they do not play or do not use any strategy!

If you only play with hands that you have a 60% chance to win against any random hand, plus only bet when they hit after the flop.  Do you call that gambling, so be it.

When people cross a road even with the lights in their favor there still are people getting hit going with the lights, so why is that not gambling.  Some people just not care and make us all question every thing.

Well I thinks its gambling. No matter how good you are or get there is always luck involved in poker and unless you have the Absolute nuts you can always be drawn out on.Gambling is when you risk something to gain something with the chance off loosen what you risk. This goes for money or anything else you gamble with and that is poker risking your money for more money even if the odds are in your favour you could still lose.

Depends on how you look at it!  You could choke while eating nuts, steak etc. and die.  This life on this planet is a gamble, or do you know when the next asteroid going to hit the planet like it did when there were dinosaurs ruling the planet? Wink

To gain any thing you gamble.  The commute to work and back home proves that!!!  Seen enough unplanned accidents.

OK I think on-line it is gambling with most of the players. 50% of on-line players have no idea about hand odds or outs. They sit at a table and because the money is not in hand they do not play the same as a real money game. The other factor is it takes the skill out of being able to read your opponents. The most skilled poker players in the world have no tell signs and are able to pick up signs off of others real quick.

The luck factor on-line I put at 50%, the luck factor live I put at 20%.

It is a mix of both. 50/50 all the way.
You take a gamble as you use your poker skills to get the job done.
This come with great rewards.

Cheers !

Yes it's gambling, however the more skill you have the less gambling is involved.  If you are better than someone else you should win more than them, It's not like playing slots, or roulette, etc.

it is gambling but depending on how good you depends on how much gamble it is.  No one ever says the stock market is gambling but that is just as much gambling as poker can be

Only one problem, in Poker when you lose, you lose your money.  On the Stock Market, you lose everybody's money.
