Was wondering what is everyones opinion on rebuy tournaments?
Personally I don't like them I think once you  lose your
chips you should be gone.

I was also wondering what do you think off the add on period and
should you add on or not?I think don't unless you are one off the low
stacks at the table. if you are chip leader or even have a little over average there is no sense in adding on any more chips. You could use that money to enter another tournament.Unless you have a real big bank roll than why not.

Well I like Re-buys.  First thing you have to do is set aside the cash you want to use before hand!  For an example if you are going to use the 10% bank roll rule in a tournament and the tournament is $5.50 buy in and you have $20 in bank roll it is a no do,  buy $200 set aside 3 buy ins after the first one to use in case you need it.

It is an other way to see the other person hand to if you are early in a tournament!

As to add on I look at where I am in standings before you lose the add on and re-buy options.

I have not to re-buy or add on quit often, but you have to beware of those who use re-buys as weapons!

More strategy involved for why and when to do it.  <=== the weapon part

i play really aggressive on the 1st 5 deals, if i ever get a good hand, i would go all in right away because i believe on MTT w/ R/A, u need to double up ur chips fast.

if i lose on my attempt to double up chips, i would rebuy then play tight.

about add-on, i think it depends on the situation whether u are larger stack or lowest stack. try to observe during add-on periods if other players would use add-on. you'll definitely notice that. if they do, then i guess u should also add to ur chips.

I do not like rebuys.

I am not a great poker player (sad but true). When I have been in rebuy tournies I find that people bet like they are crazy because they know that they can rebuy. They often bet just because they are holding an ace. More than once, I have laid down the winning hand because of that.

On the other hand, I have won rebuy tourneys without ever rebuying once, I just added on in the first break.

I used to live in Las Vegas for a long time. I never saw a re-buy until
I moved there. I didnt like it at first, but then I found out that there is
a method to the madness. Plus the pool goes up & up !

I like re-buys as long as there not to big.
I once took out 6 players in a live tourney in the first hand.
I flopped a boat with A, K, spades. Flop hit K, A, K, so I slow play it to the max.

Then after they all re-buy at $20 each I flop quads & take out 3.
They all re-buy & then I wait out two hands & then in the 5 th. hand I hit
a strait on the turn. I take out 2. One re-buys & the other walked up to me
& said " Your a good player, well done. " He then flips me $20 & said,
" Your on a roll & I dont think I have a chance today. So you take it
because I would rather see you have it than the Casino. "
I placed 2 nd. & cashed at $2,500.
I saw him the next day & bought him a $20 Rib dinner. Only in Vegas.  Cool

Cheers !

Congrats on your win. Those are some  nice hands.

But not all re buys add the re buy to the pot.
What if you were playing in a garanted tournament.
when you re buy in those tournaments the pot does not go up.

I try to stay away from them unless I win my seat.
Then I might re-buy once depending on the amount to do so.
As far as an add-on, I only do so if I'm more than half way down the
list of players left in still.

Cheers !

I agree with Drunker1 1000 or more percent on his view and ask the question as to where does the money go to if not to the pot?

Only way I might go in one of the tournaments where the pot does not grow, is if it goes to a charity I like!  And I mean 100% including rake!

At 10% rake the poker sites and casinos are get a ton or more money than I like them to get! Angry

Nice win there by the way Drunker1. Cool

OK cow... for example If I play a game at Pit bull with
a garanted prize poll off $300 and the cost is $10
re buy $10.At this site there is normally only about 14
players that play those tournaments. So 14people at $10
is $140 so the garante is $300.The site would need $160 worth
off re buys to not lose money out off there own pocket. So I would
say they keep the re buy  so they don't lose money out off
there own pockets.Even though they are already making enough $.

Just my thoughts not sure if thats the reason.

That situation I stay away!  I like full tables and bigger tournaments!  You are in a wacky sit and go with little control there underdog!  Since I like to have a 3 to 4 re-buy reserve none of my reserve does not go to prize pool an d therefore not a good investment of bankroll or time!

If you buy into a re-buy at $10 + $1 for a Gtd. pool of $5,000 the money
at that time is going to the poker site + $1 from each player in.
If the buy in's, re-buy's & add-on's amount don't reach $5,000 by the time the first hr. is up the site might loose a few bucks even with the $1 fees,
but if it goes over $5,000 the over amount will be added to the $5,000.
This will only show up in the game lobby after all re-buys & add-ons are over.
You should be able to see how many re-buys & add-ons there are in the game lobby.
The sites want it to go over so it don't cost them a dime to set it up.
So if it goes over the poker site only keeps the buy-in fee's.
Your playing for the players money, not the poker sites.

I hope this helps you all understand it better.  Cool

Cheers !
