Know when to go all in
« on: October 30, 2008, 08:13:15 AM »
i just actually playing poker and taking it seriously in order to make money at it and i started on freeroll tournaments.  There alot of people like to go all in and even if you start off with the best hand we all know poker is unpredictable.  So i noticed that position and the amount of player that have already called an all in have alot to do with your A K holding once the cards are dealt.  I dont like to go all in if there are more then two other players involved with the hand and even then i still am leary id have to have pocket Qs Ks or As but A K can be easily beaten if Q J 2 3 7 come up.  So just be patient with the all ins and i bet youll notice yourself getting farther in tournaments

Good tip sactown.I don t even like going all in
with pocket KK or AA if there are more than 2
players already in the pot that are all in but you
can t lay down AA before the flop.Any hand can
be beat before the flop.
Solution to the glass is half full - half empty ......

If you are taken something out of the glass than its half empty if you are putting something in the glass than its half full..

Nice post there.  But I also use time of tournament.  At beginning no all ins here unless I see and hit the flop!  I will watch other tables and see who does what.  One player got pretty far in a tournament doing all in or nothing, until we got but on same table.   Got K 10 and flop showed K K 10, turn 8 river 6 he goes all in and showed 6 7 os.  Aggressive play will hurt you if you use it to often.

I try get a tight persona by not doing all ins.   Nice to read you use a strategy you use and understand. 8)

I have found if it,s a very large free roll you get many ALL IN,s early. But if you know the players and have a good read. Many times I find they both have the same cards. Definately Ace-x,s taking away each others OUTS.I have folded pocket 9,s for example so many times to see both players with Ace-King and neither hitting. It can be a quick triple up if you want to gamble and depending on the free roll you might want to.

The Funny thing is the more advanced you get you realize that what takes the most skill is getting the money into the middle, and the all in thing doesnt work, its a terrible way to bluff, and its usually a waste of your hand (unless its not an overbet and you are shortstacked or just happy with the pot already). Even in tourneys I am rarely all in unless I am a shortstack and in cash games only if the pot gets there, I usually try to control the bets with half to three quarter pot bets.  overbetting is cool in freerolls only.
