Over Playing Ace-King !! How do you play them ?
« on: August 29, 2008, 08:04:53 PM »
I find so many players over play Ace-King. Especially early in an MTT they will push ALL IN with Ace-King. Even a pair of 2,s has a slightly better chance of beating Ace-King and it could be the end of your tournament. And of course if you run into AA your dominated and KK you have 3 outs.
Later in the tournament when the Blinds are getting bigger it makes more sense and worthwhile to PUSH your Ace-King to steal the blinds. Also once your closer to the bubble there is less chance of being called out.
Many players PUSH the Ace-King and totally miss the flop. And when they get raised post-flop they won,t lay down the Ace-King and chase it all the way to the river. Some will chase it with there whole stack.
I like to limp in with them sometimes. But most of the time the correct play would be to raise 3-4 X BB to take out the weaker hands like small connectors, etc.

Well I look at any two cards as just being two cards that can be beat.  Every hand has losing percentage as well a winning percentage.  Pocket Aces have a 80% chance of winning pre-flop and a 20% chance of losing.   Any two cards can be beaten.

I just accept it when I suck out and get sucked out on!  Odds even out in the long run!  I just do not like all ins with Ace-King or any connecting cards.  The flop gives you the real value of your hold cards.  You can only push for real or bluff after the flop with any confidence most of the time.

AK is a easy hand to get away from post-flop early in a MTT.  If it misses completly deposit them in the muck.  Too many people play AK like it was AA or KK but all it really is just a PREMIUM DRAWING HAND and thats what they need to realize.  I will occasionally limp with AK but under normal situations im raising with them and after flop im hoping to either pair up or they are mucked.

Simply folding AK whenever you miss the flop is way too weak.  Especially against one opponent, you'll be ahead a decent portion of the time, and even when you are behind, you'll often have six clean outs.

What are the two over odds preflop again? Pretty high, I'm guessing.

A lot of it depends on the type of game your playing. Freeroll/short-stacked/micro ring game... I'm probably pushing as much as I possibly can.
