BANKROLL MANAGEMENT
« on: September 01, 2008, 06:04:41 AM »
I have seen a lot of you playing over your heads lately. This chart will give you some guidance on how much money you need to play the different levels and games and ensure that you don't go broke!

The numbers in the "Pro" column are for players who make the majority of their income playing poker, and would be ruined financially if they lost their bankroll to a bad run of cards. Using these figures will yield a less than 1% chance of going broke over the course of a lifetime of play assuming that you are a solid player.

The numbers in the "Protected" column are for a players that are going to attempt to make a serious income. If your bankroll will be tough to replace if you lose most of it then you should use these numbers as a starting point.

The "Unprotected" column is for people who could easily replace your bankroll if you were to lose it.

Another formula for cash games
Table limits - Bankroll
$0.05/$0.10 -> $50
$0.10/$0.20 -> $100
$0.25/$0.50 -> $250
$0.50/$1.00 -> $500
$1.00/$2.00 -> $1000
$2.00/$4.00 -> $2000
$3.00/$6.00 -> $3000
$4.00/$8.00 -> $4000
$5.00/$10.00 -> $5000

There's another factor that various guidelines may not take into account sufficiently if at all.  It's that players' styles impact their variance.  Someone who plays a high-variance style should have a larger bankroll than a low-variance player at the same level.
